WordPress Pre-event: Type-Truck Visits Spoke6
November 7th, 2012 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
A renaissance in printmaking has been taking place in the past 6 or 7 years in America. At the center of the resurgence is letterpress printing. From coverage in the New York Times to the growing number of workshop, the mystic of printing is alive in modern times (about 30% of San Francisco Center for the Book 300 workshops in 2010 were letterpress workshops ). This effect can be seen in products sold online, at craft shows, and in documentary movies (2008, 2009, & 2010 brought us “Proceed and Be Bold”, “Typeface”, and “Making Faces”, respectively [2,3,4])
Kyle Durrie brings Moveable Type to Tucson on her way to her new homebase in Silver City, NM. Moveable Type is a mobile print shop built into the back of an old delivery truck. Within these tight quarters, she created an efficient and fully functional shop, with a small table top press for printing smaller work, and a larger proof press, capable of printing larger posters.
Ms. Durrie will give a talk at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, November 7, and follow up with a printing demonstration in her truck.
The talk will precede the WordPress Meetup at Spoke6.
